More than a thousand self‑employed people have gained access to paid sick leave.

      More than a thousand self-employed people registered with the voluntary temporary disability insurance system in the first four days after applications began to be accepted. This was reported to TASS by the press service of the Social Fund of Russia.

      According to the fund, 1,121 applications have been received so far from self-employed people who want the right to paid sick leave. "All applications were submitted electronically via the 'My Tax' mobile app, which confirms the demand for digital services and the simplicity of the procedure," the press service noted.

      The experiment on voluntary insurance for the self-employed began in Russia in 2026. Participation in the program allows recipients to receive payments for sick leave certificates in a manner similar to employed workers. To do this, one must register with the Social Fund, choose an insured amount — 35,000 or 50,000 rubles per year — and begin paying insurance contributions.

      Contributions can be made monthly or in a single annual payment. The rate is 3.84% of the chosen insured amount. Thus, the monthly payment equals 1,344 or 1,920 rubles, and for annual payment — 16,128 or 23,040 rubles, respectively.

      The right to receive sick-leave payments arises six months after making the annual payment or starting regular monthly payments. The amount of payments will depend on the length of insurance coverage and the period of contributions. The Social Fund clarified that after the sick leave is closed citizens will be notified of their right to payment and its amount.

      Applications to participate in the program can be submitted via the "My Tax" app, the "Gosuslugi" portal, as well as in person at client service centers of the Social Fund.
