      A little more than a month remains until the beginning of the sacred Muslim month of Ramadan. It is notable because during this month believers observe the obligatory fast and also try to perform as many good deeds as possible.       This year the holy month of Ramadan will begin on February 18 after sunset. Accordingly, the first day of the fast will fall on February 19.

      This year believers will observe the Uraza for 29 days, with the final day of the fast falling on March 19. The next day, March 20, Uraza-Bayram will be celebrated in Tatarstan. In the republic this day will be a non-working day, so believers will be able to devote it entirely to pious deeds.

      During the observance of the Uraza, believers refrain from eating and drinking water during daylight hours.

      In addition, during Ramadan Muslim men are expected to perform the Tarawih prayer in mosques after the night (Isha) prayer. Throughout the month it is also recommended to read the Qur’an, increase devotion to Allah and perform other good deeds.
