Three generations on the slopes: how the Butakov family passes down the sporting baton
The family of Zainsk resident Guliya Butakova is united by a long-standing love of skiing.
For the Butakov family, the New Year holidays traditionally begin with a ski outing. This year Guliya Butakova and her daughter Guzel also opened the season with a walk along the snow-covered trail in the New Town. This ritual is not just a sporting pastime, but part of a deep family tradition whose roots go back to the village that raised an Olympic champion.
The Butakovs come from the village of Verkhny Bagryazh in the Zainsk district — the very village that became the birthplace of the legend of Soviet skiing, Olympic champion Fyodor Simashev.
"Yes, since my school years I regularly took part in competitions. And at the pedagogical institute I also studied in the skiing department. In our family everyone adores skiing," shares Guliya.
This passion is supported by her children. Her son Rinat, chief engineer at Kazenergo, regularly wins prizes in corporate competitions. "It's no wonder we come from Fyodor Simashev's village," Guliya notes with a smile and pride, emphasizing the shared origins with the celebrated fellow villager. Even her six-year-old grandson Karim is confidently skiing for the second year, taking up the baton from the older generation.
Guliya places special importance on the benefits of this sport for the whole family: "Ski walks in the fresh air are the best boost for vigor and health. They not only strengthen the body and harden the spirit, but also provide a rare opportunity for all generations to spend time together, disconnect from gadgets and enjoy conversation in nature. For us this is the best family pastime."
Each outing on the ski trail for the Butakov family is about maintaining health and family bonds.
