More than 144,000 tons of snow have been melted in Kazan since the beginning of January.
In the early days of January, Kazan recorded a sharp increase in the volume of snow delivered to snow-melting facilities. From January 1 to 11, more than 144,000 tonnes of snow mass were removed to and processed at the stations, nearly three times the figure for the same period last year. At that time the volume was about 34,500 tonnes. This was reported on the MAX channel of Kazan Vodokanal.
The heaviest load fell on the snow-melting facility on Nesmelova Street. During the holidays it accepted almost 19,700 tonnes of snow, against a designed capacity of about 11,500 tonnes for the ten-day period. On certain days actual volumes significantly exceeded the norms: on January 6 alone the station received more than 3,100 tonnes of snow mass.
Vodokanal noted that, despite the record figures, all of the city's snow-melting facilities continue to operate in normal mode. The stations operate around the clock, without breaks for weekends and holidays.
Head of the snow-melting facilities service Leonid Rudoy said the active season began on December 10. Since then the facilities in Kazan have processed more than 250,700 tonnes of snow. According to him, it was possible to speed up work thanks to the digitalization of processes: since 2025 all snow-melting points have completely abandoned paper tickets and switched to an automated system for recording and admitting equipment.
Currently eight snow-melting stations operate in Kazan, equipped with 14 chambers. Their total design capacity is 8,000 tonnes of snow per day, however actual loading exceeds the calculated figures — each chamber processes more than 1,200 tonnes per day.
