      During the New Year holiday period in Kazan, 51 emergency outages in the utilities system were registered. Most of the incidents were related to cold water supply.

      These figures were provided by Ilsur Khismatullin, chairman of the city executive committee’s housing and communal services committee, reports Vesti Tatarstan. The largest number of incidents were related to the supply of cold water — specialists recorded 27 such cases. Another 14 emergencies occurred on electrical networks, eight affected the heating system, and two outages involved hot water supply.

      According to the head of the relevant committee, all non-routine situations were resolved as quickly as possible, and there were no serious disruptions to the city’s infrastructure. Notably, compared to the same period last year the situation did not change — exactly 51 emergency utility outages were also recorded then.

      The report states that during the holiday period city services completely suspended planned repair work on engineering networks in order to minimize risks to consumers. Emergency crews switched to an enhanced round-the-clock duty schedule. A necessary stock of materials, special machinery and equipment was prepared in advance to promptly eliminate any faults.

      It was previously reported that between 31 December 2025 and 11 January 2026 Kazan was visited by more than 200,000 tourists, which is 16.7% higher than the figures for the same New Year holidays a year earlier. At the same time, according to data from the previous New Year holidays, the average hotel occupancy rate reached 79%, and on peak days, January 3–5, hotels were 100% full.
