As of today, Kazan's parking system has about 11.7 thousand parking spaces. Moreover, as reported by the regional government, more than 3 thousand of them appeared in the first half of 2024.
The capital of Tatarstan took third place in the national ranking of paid parking space development, second only to Moscow and Krasnodar. This was announced by the chairman of the Kazan Transport Committee, Alexey Sidorov, summarizing the results of 2024. Experts evaluated cities based on five key indicators: service convenience, parking infrastructure development, accessibility for drivers, impact on the transport situation, and economic efficiency of the system. A total of 38 Russian cities with organized municipal parking were included in the ranking, and the top 10 also featured St. Petersburg, Sochi, Nizhny Novgorod, and Yalta. According to RBC, by the end of December, the city plans to introduce an additional 1.6 thousand parking spaces in all districts. The ambitious plans of the authorities foresee increasing this figure to 30 thousand by 2030 – more than a twofold increase in six years. The development of paid parking infrastructure has been a response to the rapid growth of motorization. Over the past 20 years, the vehicle fleet in Kazan has tripled – from 152 thousand cars in 2005 to 485 thousand in 2024. The number of vehicles per 1,000 residents has increased from 138 to 368, which required systemic solutions to combat traffic jams. The municipal parking system, created in 2015, has become one of the tools for regulating traffic flow. Authorities note that the introduction of paid parking has not only improved the situation on the roads but has also allowed the city to generate additional income, which is directed towards the development of transport infrastructure. The next step will be the digitalization of the system and the implementation of "smart" parking space management technologies.
