       The average cost of hot meals for schoolchildren in the Republic of Tatarstan in 2026 may increase by 12%: from the established 69.4 to 77.7 rubles per day.

       The cost of hot meals for schoolchildren in Tatarstan may be revised. According to a new draft resolution of the republic's government, which is currently undergoing anti-corruption expertise, the cost of school lunches may rise from the current 69.4 to 77.7 rubles per day as early as 2026. Initially, it was planned to set the price at 72.2 rubles for the next year. The changes will also affect subsequent years. In 2027, meals that were originally planned to cost 75.1 rubles may increase to 80.8 rubles. And for 2028, a new standard of 84.1 rubles per day is proposed. For comparison: in Kazan today, the menu of free choice costs 89 rubles, a set lunch – 63 rubles, breakfast or snack – 43 rubles, and a portion of soup – 20 rubles. The Kazan city hall previously emphasized that the cost of meals in the capital remains one of the lowest rates for school meals among all million-plus cities in Russia. Alongside the planned price increase, a large-scale program to modernize school canteens continues in the republic. This year alone, 271 million rubles from the Tatarstan budget have been allocated for the renovation of 12 food blocks. Last year, similar work was carried out in 17 Kazan schools, costing 331 million rubles. Recall that Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin stated back in February 2024 about plans to fully complete the school canteen renovation program by 2025. This should improve the conditions for food preparation and may partially offset the upcoming price increase through process optimization.
