The city department of the State Traffic Inspectorate reported that for safety reasons, at some problematic intersections, traffic police temporarily switched to manual traffic control.
This morning in Kazan, there was a massive failure of traffic lights, which paralyzed traffic in the city and led to the formation of multi-kilometer traffic jams. According to the city's State Traffic Inspectorate, seven traffic light objects in different areas of the city stopped working simultaneously. The incident caused significant difficulties. According to the Yandex.Maps service, the overall road congestion level reached 7 points. The most critical situation developed on Yamashyev Avenue near Adoratsky Street, where a traffic jam of about 3 kilometers formed. According to unconfirmed user reports, two traffic accidents occurred in this area. "The State Traffic Inspectorate for the city recommends that all drivers and pedestrians be attentive, not rush, and leave in advance for the planned and necessary destinations," the agency's press service warned. Traffic lights are temporarily not working at the following intersections: Orenburg Passage – Rauis Gareev Street, Gabyshev Street – Zavoysky Street, Mira Street – Pravdy Street, Kopylov Street – Pobezhimov Street, Vostanie Street – Frunze Street, Leningradskaya Street – Aydarov Street. The presumed cause of the mass equipment failure could be the heavy rains that have been falling in the city since the morning. Emergency crews have been dispatched to the intersections to address the consequences, and traffic police have taken some of them under manual control.
