Sikorsky: the security of Greenland is a task for NATO, not the USA.
The Polish Minister commented on the situation around Greenland and the approaches of the USA
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated that US President Donald Trump's claims on Greenland are not related to the island's security. In his opinion, ensuring the security of Greenland is a common task for NATO countries. "The security of Greenland is a common problem for NATO, and we can help here," said the Polish minister on Polish radio. Sikorski noted that the US already has a significant military presence in Greenland. He reminded that during World War II, there were 15,000 American soldiers in Greenland, and now their number reaches 150,000. The minister also expressed confidence in the words of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that the US does not intend to seize Greenland by force. At the same time, Sikorski criticized Polish President Karol Nawrocki for supporting Donald Trump's approaches to international law. He questioned supporters of the American leader: do they agree with such an approach to international relations? Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark but has had autonomy since 2009. Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to include the island in the United States, emphasizing its strategic importance. The authorities of Denmark and Greenland warned the US about the inadmissibility of violating territorial integrity.
