Trump in Davos: The US should not be involved in Ukraine – this is Europe's business.
Europe has turned into a "problematic continent" in recent years and is developing "in the wrong direction," said U.S. President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He linked this, among other things, to migration policy, noting that the world is facing the largest wave of migration in its history, and certain regions of Europe have become "unrecognizable." At the same time, he emphasized that the U.S., on the contrary, is experiencing a period of growth. Trump stated that after his administration took office, the country became "the hottest in the world, whereas it was dead." According to him, when the American economy grows, it positively affects global development. Trump also mentioned that the United States possesses the latest weapons capable of "destroying everything with one missile," without going into details. Furthermore, Trump stated that Washington should not be involved in resolving the Ukrainian crisis; that is Europe's responsibility. "They do not appreciate what we are doing. I am talking about NATO, I am talking about Europe. They should deal with Ukraine, and we should not. The U.S. is very far away, separated by a great beautiful ocean; we have nothing to do with it," he said, reflecting on the possibility of resolving the Ukrainian crisis. Trump also reported that the U.S. leads in artificial intelligence and is ahead of other countries in expanding energy capacities. "Instead of shutting down power plants, we are opening them. We are dismantling inefficient and unprofitable windmills. Instead of empowering bureaucrats, we are firing them — and they go to work in the private sector. We have fired about 270,000 bureaucrats," he noted. Separately, the U.S. president touched on foreign economic policy. He confirmed the intention to impose tariffs to compensate for losses to the American economy and also mentioned Venezuela, stating that the country could receive significant revenues from selling oil to the U.S. "Twenty years ago, Venezuela was a great country, and now it has problems. The attack is over, and they said, 'Let's make a deal.' More people should do that," he added. Recall that from January 19 to 26, the World Economic Forum is taking place in Davos, Switzerland. More than 60 heads of state and government, as well as 55 ministers of economy and finance and over 800 top managers will participate. Among them are European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and World Trade Organization Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
