In Kazan, new editions of Kayum Nasyri with text adapted for children were presented.

At the Literary Museum of Gabdulla Tukay, the books of the scholar and educator Kayum Nasyri – "Kitab at-Tarbiyah" and "The Tale of Abugalisin" – were presented to the public. The publications are timed to the 201st anniversary of the thinker’s birth and were released with the support of the leadership of the Republic of Tatarstan. The head of the Kayum Nasyri Museum, Kadriya Khalimova, noted that the release of the books is another way to draw attention to the personality of the scholar. She reminded that in 2024, she approached the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan with a proposal to publish the lesser-known works of the educator for the general public, and after discussions, it was decided to release the two mentioned books.

"The Tale of Abugalisin" with adapted text and new illustrations

The publication "The Tale of Abugalisin" is primarily aimed at a children's audience and was released in a print run of 3,100 copies in the Tatar language. The main feature of the book is that the text has been specially adapted for young readers for the first time and is supplemented with new illustrations created specifically for the anniversary edition. "The plot of 'The Tale of Abugalisin' is familiar to all of us from childhood, but this edition is unique. The text written by Kayum Nasyri has been simplified to spark interest among children. This work was done by Aydar Shaikhin (head of the Sharif Kamal Memorial Apartment – note from 'Tatar-inform')," explained Kadriya Khalimova. The design of the publication was handled by designer Maria Akhmetova. She noted that preparing the illustrations was an interesting and important experience for her. "I wanted to complement and emphasize the story written by Kayum Nasyri. The task was not just to illustrate phrases but to transport the reader into the atmosphere of that time, to the place where the events unfold. The architecture of Muslim temples and mosaics served as the basis. Therefore, the choice of blue tones is not accidental – it is characteristic of the mosques of that era. Initially, it was planned to make fewer illustrations, but as I got to know the work, I felt the desire to increase their number. This was done so that the young reader's interest would not wane during reading," she said.

"Kitab at-Tarbiyah" will also be released in audio format

The second publication, "Kitab at-Tarbiyah," was released in a print run of 2,500 copies in Russian and Tatar languages. The book includes 112 pieces of advice from the scholar that remain relevant today. Kadriya Khalimova noted that Kayum Nasyri laid the foundations for child education back in the 19th century. Currently, in collaboration with the "Million Tatar" project, there are plans to release this book in audio format.

"Completion of renovation work is expected at the Kayum Nasyri Museum"

The director of the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ayrat Faizrakhmanov, called the released books "new gems." He also spoke about plans to immortalize the name of the scholar. According to him, this year the completion of large-scale renovation work at the Kayum Nasyri Museum is expected. "After the museum building is renovated, an updated exhibition will be prepared. Also, last year a competition was held for the creation of a bust of Kayum Nasyri, which was won by sculptors from Moscow. The location for it has already been determined – at the intersection of Tatarstan and Kayum Nasyri streets," the director of the National Museum reported.

"A scholarly edition of the scholar should be published"

Scholars studying the personality and work of Kayum Nasyri were invited to the book presentation. Leading researcher at the Center for Written Heritage of the G. Ibrahimov Institute of Language, Literature, and Arts, candidate of philological sciences Azat Akhunov noted that it is necessary to publish academic collections of the scholar's works, creating at least a 10-volume set. "No matter how much we talk about Kayum Nasyri, not everyone is well acquainted with his books. The publication of books is a significant event. His academic editions and children's books should also be published. Let them be in both Russian and Tatar languages," he said.

Doctor of Historical Sciences, senior researcher at the Center for Islamic Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan Ildus Zagidullin called the publication of the books after the anniversary a dream come true. Doctor of Philological Sciences Ramil Islamov urged to expand the study of the educator's legacy. "In the native village of Kayum Nasyri – Malye Shirdany of the Zelenodolsk district – significant work has been done: springs have been improved, streets have been paved, a cultural center has been opened, and now plans are underway to open a park. If the people elevate their great man, then the great man elevates the people. If such work has been done in the village, it means that Kayum Babai continues to help his village," he noted. At the end of the event, the scholar's relative Asiya Gubaidullina spoke about the work to preserve the memory of Kayum Nasyri in Malye Shirdany.
