A total of more than 400 appeals were received by the city administration, reported the head of the Kazan Executive Committee, Rustem Gafarov, at a business Monday meeting. “People continue to write to us. It is clear that this was due to the yards being piled with snow, and garbage trucks could not approach the containers,” Gafarov stated. According to him, in March, the number of appeals significantly decreased; however, they did not disappear completely, indicating that the problem has not been fully resolved.

      There would be enough garbage to fill more than 18,000 freight train cars

      As noted by the head of the Housing and Utilities Company, Evgeny Chekashov, since the beginning of 2026, more than 1.6 million cubic meters of solid municipal waste have been removed from Kazan. According to him, this amount of garbage would be enough to fill more than 18,000 freight train cars, and the length of such a train would exceed 245 kilometers. He stated that currently, 120 garbage trucks are operating in two shifts in Kazan, along with 120 drivers and 175 loaders. The percentage of daily task completion is 95%, which is only 3-4% lower than planned indicators. “The weather conditions of the past period posed a serious challenge for the fleet and personnel. Work has been carried out in an intensified mode since December 28. The city was cleared of snow four times, each time restructuring logistics and strengthening the grouping of equipment,” Chekashov emphasized.

      Staff reduced by 30%

      He noted that during heavy snowfalls, some employees could not withstand the pressure and resigned. Thus, the staff has decreased by almost 30% from the total number – by 34 drivers and 45 loaders. In addition, some garbage collection vehicles were damaged while getting stuck in the snow. “Vehicles were removed from routes for collecting sorted and bulky waste to maintain linear collection in the residential and social sectors,” stated the head of the Housing and Utilities Company.

      As Chekashov explained, garbage collection of yellow nets and bulky waste is currently being prioritized in Kazan, along with addressing accumulated volumes. Since the beginning of the year, more than 4,000 clean-ups have been conducted with special equipment in collaboration with district administrations and management companies. “All complaints are recorded, and addresses are promptly added to the plan,” he emphasized. Additionally, the number of trips has recently increased, and 14 dump trucks, 7 loaders, and 3 scrap trucks have been engaged. Special equipment is working in conjunction with six mobile teams and janitors from management companies.

      “Residents rightly expect order to be maintained. A request to the Housing and Utilities Committee is to engage as much as possible in solving the problem together with management companies and the regional operator. District heads must signal about the work on garbage collection from the village area for prompt response,” Rustem Gafarov stated in this regard.
