Cancer incidence in Tatarstan has increased by a third over five years.
From 2020 to 2025, the republic recorded a 31.1% increase in the number of malignant neoplasms. This was reported at a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan by the chief freelance oncologist of the regional Ministry of Health, Eduard Nagumanov. In 2020, there were 386 cases per 100,000 population registered in Tatarstan, while by 2025 this figure reached 506. A total of 20,371 new cancer cases were identified last year — 5,800 more than five years ago. Compared to 2024, the increase was 899 cases. The most commonly diagnosed are colorectal cancer, skin neoplasms (including melanoma), breast cancer, as well as lung and prostate tumors. More than half of the identified localizations (53.2%) are at early stages. According to Nagumanov, if preventive programs are fully implemented, the situation regarding these types of cancer becomes manageable.
