      Questions of digital hygiene have once again come to the forefront after an information security specialist revealed common user mistakes regarding the storage of credentials. Artem Geller, the chief developer of the official Kremlin website (Kremlin.ru) and a recognized expert in the IT field, warned citizens in an interview with "Tatar-inform" against using unreliable methods for storing passwords for social networks and other services. According to the expert, many users, in an effort to remember complex combinations of symbols, resort to two extremes: they either save the data in text files on their desktop or write it down on paper. Geller emphasized that both of these methods are not only ineffective but also create a critical vulnerability for personal data. "Writing down your password anywhere, in a file or on a piece of paper, decreases the security of your account," the publication quotes the interlocutor. "First of all, you should not write it on paper, because anything can happen to that paper: someone might see it, or it might accidentally end up in the trash."

      The specialist noted a paradoxical fact, at first glance: in the modern digital world, storing passwords directly on a computer's hard drive can be even more dangerous than the analog method. He explained that hackers can gain unauthorized remote access to files much more easily than they can gain physical access to a user's personal note. Additionally, Artem Geller pointed out the risks associated with using specialized software—password managers. Although such applications are designed as tools to enhance security, the expert warns against their thoughtless use. The main threat lies in the sources of download: installing fake or malicious software from dubious resources can lead to the complete compromise of all saved data.

      As the only reliable and optimal solution, the IT expert suggested abandoning external information storage devices in any form. Users are recommended to create complex yet mnemonic combinations of symbols that a person can remember without the need to record them in a digital or physical environment. This approach, according to Geller, minimizes the risk of data interception by third parties.
