A new base for the sailing school will appear on the Lokomotiv Peninsula.

      Renderings of the renovation of the Lokomotiv Peninsula were presented in Kazan – the project includes a yacht club, sports areas, and new infrastructure for the sailing school. They were shown at a meeting on the development of the Lokomotiv Peninsula as part of the concept "Kazan – a city on water," led by Mayor Ilsur Metshin, reports the press service of the Kazan City Hall. Participants reviewed proposals from the investor – the Kazan Plant of Small-Tonnage Chemistry. The owner of the enterprise, Rinat Arslanov, presented a project for the transformation of two areas: the territory of the "Aviator" sailing school and the area at the intersection of Alfred Khalikov and Protopop Avvakum streets.

      A modern training base is proposed to be built at the children's sailing school. The building will include classrooms, coach rooms, changing rooms, drying rooms, a workshop for repairing equipment, and a boathouse for storing sports yachts. The school area is planned to be divided into several zones: for yacht storage, recreation with the possibility of setting up a campsite during competitions, and sports activities with a universal playground and exercise equipment. Entry for students is planned to be organized from the eastern side – along the facade of the historic building "Prilutsky Prayer House," where a pavilion with a control access system is planned to be installed.

      For convenient and safe access to the water, the project includes the creation of a sports slip with fencing on the northern shoreline. It is expected that the infrastructure upgrade will enhance the training level of young athletes. The second area extends from the Volga to the intersection of the streets. Currently, there is a staircase with obelisks that is hardly used due to the relocation of the main entrance to the peninsula. In this area, the investor proposed to create a "grand entrance" to the yacht club.

      The central object will be the "Captaincy" pavilion, which will house the yacht club administration and the model sailing sports federation with workshops. It is also planned to allocate water areas for model sailors and arrange spectator seating in a zone with minimal wave action. The landscaping project includes the creation of a sports area with three beach volleyball courts and a workout area. Implementation is planned to be divided into several stages and financed through private investments.

      Ilsur Metshin supported the proposed solutions. The discussion also involved the head of the Kazan Executive Committee, Rustem Gafarov, and his deputy, Ildar Shakirov. The concept "Kazan – a city on water" was developed by the City Development Institute in 2023 at the mayor's request. It envisions the creation of new public spaces by the water, the development of infrastructure for small vessels on the Volga and Kazanka rivers, as well as support for sailing, motor boating, and model sailing sports. Standard solutions have already been prepared for investors, allowing for the development of the area within a unified strategy.
