In Tatarstan, 15 falcons with trackers will be released to restore the population.
In the Republic of Tatarstan, it is planned to release at least 15 Saker falcons with GPS trackers into the wild in 2026. The project is aimed at restoring the rare population of birds. Work continues in Tatarstan to preserve rare species of birds of prey. As reported by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, the release of at least 15 Saker falcons into their natural habitat is planned for 2026. The project is being implemented as part of the program to restore the Volga-Kama population. Over the past three years, 24 birds have already been released into the wild, including two chicks that appeared in the region for the first time in decades. Minister of Ecology Azat Ziganshin noted that work on breeding falcons continues. In 2024, several adult individuals were transferred to the Kazan Zoo for breeding, and new chicks are expected to appear this year. An important innovation will be the installation of special trackers on the birds. This will allow specialists to monitor their movement routes, adaptation to the wild, and the overall state of the population. The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia. The geography of bird releases is also expanding. In addition to the Kama-Ustinsky district, falcons are planned to be released in the territory of the Saralinsky section of the Volga-Kama Nature Reserve. Ecologists emphasize that restoring the Saker falcon population is of great importance for preserving the region's biodiversity. The implementation of such projects contributes to strengthening the ecosystem and returning rare species to their natural environment. The use of modern technologies, such as GPS monitoring, makes the program more effective and allows for tracking the fate of each released bird.
