      In Tatarstan, energy consumption of data centers has nearly doubled, reaching 255.8 million kWh. This accounts for more than 3% of the annual energy consumption in the republic, while in Russia, the share of energy consumption by the IT industry does not exceed 0.7% so far. This was reported by the Deputy Prime Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan, Oleg Korobchenko, at a government meeting held as part of the Energy Industry Forum -2026. The unprecedented growth in energy consumption of data centers is linked to the rapid development of data processing technologies, he explained. Over the past three years, this figure has increased fivefold, reaching 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. And this is not the limit. In the near future, the load on the republic's networks may increase almost fivefold, believes the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan. The volume of consumption is expected to grow to 1.2 billion kWh by 2030. In the future, further exponential growth is predicted across the country. According to the forecast of the Ministry of Energy of Russia, by 2030, the share of artificial intelligence in data center consumption nationwide will increase from 15% to 50%. In addition, an increase in the average capacity of one center from 50 to 150 MW is expected. Such growth will inevitably lead to a significant increase in demand for electricity. In this regard, there is an acute need to meet the needs of this new market segment without harming industrial enterprises. The Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan proposed building its own generation. "When constructing data centers, it is necessary to consider our own energy sources," he said. Currently, there are six data centers operating in Tatarstan, most of which are located in Innopolis.
