"In Leninogorsk, early tick activity is expected again, the main carriers of infectious diseases such as tick-borne viral encephalitis, tick-borne borreliosis, and others," reminded Ramilya Mukhamadeeva, a doctor from the territorial department of the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in Tatarstan. The tick activity season usually begins in spring when the temperature rises to +5°C and above, and lasts until the end of summer or the beginning of autumn. Last year in Leninogorsk, the first bites were registered as early as April 2025, when 88 people, including 57 children, sought medical help for this reason. Fortunately, such a dangerous disease as tick-borne encephalitis has not been registered in our area for the last 10 years. "Nevertheless, the Leninogorsk district remains an endemic area for tick-borne viral encephalitis, meaning it is a territory where high tick activity and regular cases of the disease are consistently reported," says Ramilya Mukhamadeeva. Specialists warn: tick-borne viral encephalitis can bring a lot of trouble. It is an acute infectious viral disease that primarily affects the central nervous system. Severe disease progression can lead to disability and a more severe consequence - death. The main reasons for the deterioration of the condition are the lack of vaccination and late medical assistance.

      In the vicinity of Leninogorsk, there are forests - the most suitable places for ticks to thrive, but they can also be found in our forest park, city parks, and squares. "Contrary to popular belief, ticks do not climb trees. They primarily inhabit grass, and less often - shrubs. This insect, once attached to clothing, crawls upwards until it finds a 'hidden spot' on the skin to latch onto. This takes an average of up to 30 minutes. They are most often found behind the ears, on the neck, under the arms, and in the hair," explains Ramilya Mukhamadeeva.
