"Look at the photo. This person has died, do you know him?" - residents of Chistopol are receiving messages that draw them into fraud schemes.
A 56-year-old local resident reported to the duty unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Chistopol District about fraud. At the end of February, the man received a suspicious message via messenger with the text "Look at the photo. This person has died, do you know him?". However, he was unable to follow the link contained in the message. It later turned out that mass messages with similar content were sent from his phone, as informed by his relatives. In an attempt to secure himself, he contacted a mobile service salon to check his device. Further difficulties arose when trying to log into his personal account on the "Gosuslugi" portal. The man was able to restore access to his account through the MFC. After some time, the victim received a notification from one of the marketplaces that a mobile phone had been purchased from his personal account, which was received by an unidentified person at a pickup point in Moscow. To make this purchase, the fraudsters took out a loan in the name of the victim from a microfinance organization for the amount of 27,400 rubles. Based on this fact, an investigator from the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has opened a criminal case under the signs of crimes provided for by Article 159, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Fraud" and Article 272, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Unauthorized access to computer information." Police officers strongly recommend that citizens refrain from following unverified links, even if they are received from trusted individuals.
