The head of the machine engineering NGO, Alexander Leonov, has died – the creator of the Zircon missiles.
The general director and chief designer of the Moscow Region's NPO Machine Engineering, where the "Zircon" missiles are produced, Alexander Leonov, passed away at the age of 75, a source close to the developer told RIA Novosti. Leonov was born on February 26, 1952, in the city of Morshansk, Tambov region. After graduating from MAI in 1975, he began working at the Central Design Bureau of Machine Engineering (now NPO Machine Engineering), where he rose from a design engineer to a leader. Since 2007, he had headed the enterprise. Under Leonov's leadership, combat equipment for intercontinental ballistic missiles "Avangard" was developed. In 2019, he was awarded the title of Hero of Labor.
