140 years of Tukay: Day of remembrance of the great poet

      The year 2026 has been declared the Year of Gabdulla Tukay in the Republic of Tatarstan in honor of the 140th anniversary of his birth. On April 15, the Gabdulla Tukay Literary Museum invites you to the Poet's Memorial Day. Memorial events will begin at 11:00 at the New Tatar Sloboda Cemetery (Prigorodnaya, 1), where a traditional flower-laying ceremony will take place at the poet's grave. Words from scholars and literary figures will be spoken, and a prayer will be read. At 12:00, an exhibition titled "Our Tukay" will open at the Gabdulla Tukay Literary Museum (Tukay St., 74). The exhibition will showcase paintings inspired by the life and work of the poet, lifetime editions of his works, and autographs. The exhibition has been prepared jointly by the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan, the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan, the N. I. Lobachevsky Scientific Library of Kazan Federal University, and the State Archive of the Republic of Tatarstan. At 13:00, in collaboration with the Union of Writers of the Republic of Tatarstan, the presentation of the first volume of the "Anthology of Tatar Poetry" will take place. The program will conclude at 15:00 with a lecture-concert titled "Gabdulla Tukay's Works on Gramophone Records." It will be conducted by Idris Gaziev — Honored Artist of Russia, People's Artist of Bashkortostan and Tatarstan, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan named after G. Tukay and the State Prize of the Republic of Bashkortostan named after S. Yulaev, professor, candidate of art studies. The singer will perform folk songs based on Tukay's poems — "Allyuki" and "Tugan Tel."
