More than 150 billion rubles were seized from corrupt officials in Russia over three months.
In the first quarter of 2026 alone, Russian officials involved in bribery have had 151.5 billion rubles confiscated. Former governors, deputies, and dozens of judges are under investigation. The year has just begun, and Russian anti-corruption agencies are already breaking records. In the first three months of 2026, 151.5 billion rubles have been seized from corrupt individuals — a sum that was previously illegally appropriated and is now being returned to the budget. However, paradoxically, this figure represents only 9.4% of the total amount confiscated in 2025. According to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Alexander Gutsan, 1.6 trillion rubles were seized that year. For comparison, in 2024, this amount did not even reach 500 billion. The dynamics of growth in these figures indicate a strengthening of the fight against corruption. This year, former deputies, governors, vice-governors, senators, federal ministers, and dozens of judges are already under investigation and trial. High-profile arrests follow one after another, and corruption scandals have ceased to be a rarity even at the highest levels of power. Last week, the Russian government approved a bill aimed at speeding up the process of selling confiscated property. The document significantly simplifies the sale of housing seized from corrupt individuals. First of all, the requirement that the market value of the property must be at least twice the calculated value is being abolished. This rule often delayed transactions and forced the state to hold expensive square meters on its balance sheet for years. Additionally, the six-month waiting period before re-listing property for auction, if the first attempt failed, is being removed from the procedure. Now the process will move faster, and confiscated apartments and houses can quickly replenish the budget. Experts note that the new measures will not only strengthen punishment for corrupt individuals but also make the system for returning stolen property more effective. The main goal is to ensure that illegally acquired property does not sit idle but works for the state.
