      In Tatarstan, 543 road traffic accidents were registered in the first three months of 2026, resulting in 63 fatalities and 677 injuries. This was reported at a meeting of the Government Commission of the Republic of Tatarstan on road safety. The meeting took place at the Government House of Tatarstan under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan – Head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Tatarstan Shamil Gafarov. Compared to the same period in 2025, the number of accidents decreased by 32 cases, however, the number of fatalities increased by 17 people. At the same time, the number of injured decreased by 67. A representative of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, Ayrat Samigullin, reported that the main causes of fatal accidents were head-on collisions, pedestrian hits, collisions with obstacles, and driving under the influence. More than 40% of fatalities were due to head-on collisions, including in areas where overtaking is prohibited. It was noted that preventive measures are being carried out in the republic, including campaigns "Oncoming Lane" and "Pedestrian," during which thousands of traffic rule violations are identified. There has also been an increase in the number of fatalities on certain categories of roads, including regional and local routes, as well as on the federal M-12 "East" highway, where speeding was cited as the main cause of accidents. Special attention was paid to accidents involving pedestrians and children. The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate emphasized the importance of using child restraint devices and reported on preventive work being conducted in schools and with parents. Additionally, there has been an increase in the number of accidents involving underage drivers of motorcycles and motor vehicles. According to the traffic police, such cases will be referred to investigative authorities for legal assessment of the actions of parents or legal representatives.

      During the meeting, proposals were also presented to enhance road safety and measures to reduce accident rates at the regional level.
