Metshin was shown the future figure skating center.

In the Vakhitovsky district of Kazan, the construction of a figure skating center with an area of 6,000 square meters continues. It will house an ice rink with stands for 250 spectators, spacious changing rooms, and a museum featuring the awards of Olympic champion Alina Zagitova. The construction of the rink itself will begin next week. The progress of the work was inspected by Kazan's mayor Ilsur Metshin, as reported by the city's administration press service. "This facility is unique, as figure skating requires special conditions: the ice must be softer, and the temperature in the hall must be comfortable. Unlike hockey players, who play on hard ice in the cold, figure skaters need a special atmosphere. We are very pleased that, thanks to the support of the president of our republic, this ice palace has become a reality. We checked the progress of the work: the project fully takes into account the technical requirements of our figure skaters. Everything necessary is provided: a sufficient number of changing rooms, halls for choreography and general physical training. I am confident that by the Day of the City and the Republic, the facility will be ready," noted Metshin.

As reported by the director of the State Unitary Enterprise "Tatinvestgrazhdanproekt," Adel Khusnutdinov, the future center will be divided into sports and training zones. The first floor will feature an ice rink with stands for 250 spectators, 6 changing rooms with direct access to the ice for 15-20 people, a medical block, administrative offices, and a cafeteria. On the second floor, there will be two large changing rooms for 60 people, three halls for general physical training, two choreography classrooms, and a warm-up room. The third floor will be dedicated to administrative offices.

The area of the ice rink will be 30 by 60 meters. A cooling and air conditioning system will be installed under the ice, and the boards will be made with a soft covering without a hard protective net. The construction of the rink will begin in just a week, Khusnutdinov noted.

As of today, the builders have completed the installation of the monolithic foundation, roofing, and cladding of the building with sandwich panels. They are currently installing internal engineering communications, cladding the facade, and installing glass stained glass windows. About 90 people are working on the site daily.

The chief architect of the State Unitary Enterprise "Tatinvestgrazhdanproekt," Elena Valeeva, stated that the building's design is unique: the architects rejected standard solutions. The facade, clad with aluminum stained glass with perforation, will visually resemble an ice surface. The interior will be in calm tones with bright red accents—a reference to Zagitova's victorious performances, as she often took to the ice in red costumes. The light fixtures will be shaped like skate blade marks, and the central element of the hall will be a column made of acrylic, imitating ice. The same solution will be adopted for creating an "ice" reception desk. A mini-museum with awards and posters of the titled figure skater will open in the hall.

The adjacent territory will include parking for 44 spaces, a sports ground, and a relaxation area with sun loungers. The school project appeared in 2023 after Zagitova's meeting with the president of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. A center was developed for it, which construction began in 2025. 1.3 billion rubles have been allocated for the work. Zagitova herself has not yet announced ideas on how her school will operate and what specialists she plans to attract. She visited the construction site of the center in September 2025.
