      A meeting of senior officials from Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the level of deputy foreign ministers took place in Kazan. The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Andrey Rudenko, reports the press service of the Government of Tatarstan. The meeting was held in the year marking the 35th anniversary of the establishment of relations between Russia and ASEAN. Participants discussed in detail the development of strategic partnerships in politics, economics, and humanitarian areas. They also outlined specific steps to expand and diversify cooperation, including the launch of new joint mechanisms and projects. The implementation of the Comprehensive Action Plan Russia – ASEAN for 2021-2025 and the preparation of a new medium-term document were also reviewed. During the exchange of views on international and regional issues, the parties confirmed their commitment to strengthening the security architecture in Eurasia and the Asia-Pacific region. The discussion focused on the principles of openness, equality, and adherence to international law. Participants also expressed their readiness to enhance interaction on multilateral platforms and develop ASEAN's ties with the EAEU and SCO. Tatarstan's Prime Minister Alexey Pesoshin, in his welcoming speech, noted that the republic considers it a great honor to host a meeting of this level. He stated that holding the event in Tatarstan speaks of high trust and emphasizes the region's role as a platform for international dialogue and cooperation. Pesoshin thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia for its support in organizing the meeting and noted that the coordinated work of diplomats allowed it to be held at a high level. He also emphasized that Kazan has historically been a meeting place for cultures, religions, and civilizations, where interethnic harmony, respect, and partnership have been formed over the centuries. According to him, these values align with the spirit of Russia – ASEAN interaction, based on equality and sustainable development. The Prime Minister noted that cooperation between Russia and ASEAN countries is particularly important today and has significant potential in trade, industrial cooperation, innovation, digital economy, education, science, tourism, and humanitarian exchanges. He added that Tatarstan actively participates in the international agenda and is interested in developing direct ties with Southeast Asian countries. In conclusion, Pesoshin expressed confidence that the meeting would contribute to strengthening the strategic partnership between Russia and ASEAN, help develop new approaches to economic ties and humanitarian cooperation. He wished the participants productive work, a pleasant stay in Kazan, and new useful contacts.
