      An updated concept for the improvement of the third phase of the embankment of Lake Nizhny Kaban was presented in Kazan. The director of the Institute for the Development of Cities of the Republic, Nailya Nagumanova, spoke about it at a briefing in the Tatarstan Cabinet. The initial concept of the area was refined after discussions with experts and residents of Kazan. The changes are aimed at strengthening the connection with the historical context and more detailed development of walking routes. The project was developed by the architectural bureaus Wowhaus and "ArchDesant" under the supervision of the Institute for the Development of Cities of Tatarstan and the Kazan City Hall.

      Thus, it was decided to preserve the familiar landscape of the coastline as much as possible. In particular, attention was paid to recreation areas under the willows. Specialists reviewed the configuration of pedestrian routes and moved part of the planned walkways from the water to the shore.

      The configuration of the walkways is now designed so that the view during the walk is always directed towards the main architectural landmarks of Kazan. Residents and guests of the city will be able to admire the mosque, the prefecture of the Old Town, and the new building of the Kamal Theater.

      The dendrological plan, which takes into account the features of the coastal ecosystem, has been worked out in detail. In the first phase, attention will be focused on the water surface: zones for planting aquatic plants have been planned, which will form a system of water gardens. Landscaping of the slope will be left for the second phase.

      In the area of the Krestovnikov brothers' factory, a technical room will be created for servicing the new lighting system of the embankment. It will be integrated into the natural landscape.

      The work will be carried out in two phases. The first is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. The list of planned works includes the creation of water gardens and observation platforms. To connect the levels, three key ascents will be arranged: in the area of the Krestovnikov brothers' factory, from the side of Mardzhani Street, and along KSK Street. The second phase will start in 2027. It will affect the upper promenade and will focus on organizing a pedestrian zone that covers the entire roadway of Mardzhani Street. The transport scheme of the street will be reorganized, including bicycle and vehicle traffic. Reconstruction of engineering networks, including electricity and water supply and stormwater drainage systems, is also planned.
