A pensioner from Moscow gave 71 million to scammers under the pretext of replacing the intercom.
In Moscow, a pensioner lost 71 million rubles after believing in an upcoming intercom replacement. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the Moscow prosecutor's office. According to the agency, a 76-year-old man was added to a chat supposedly with neighbors and was informed about the intercom replacement. Subsequently, the man sent his application details for the key replacement to the number provided in the chat, but soon received a message that all his property would be sold off. The man went to the MFC and blocked all real estate transactions, but then a fake law enforcement officer called him and convinced him to keep his money in a special account. Additionally, the scammers placed several mobile phones for communication and a fake decree in the pensioner's mailbox stating that he was a suspect in a criminal case. Succumbing to the fraudsters' persuasion, the man withdrew money from his accounts, sold two cars, and then handed the money over to couriers, supposedly from a law enforcement agency. Realizing he had been deceived, he contacted law enforcement. The criminals are being sought.
