The EMERCOM of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan has jointly launched a pilot project for a monitoring and forecasting system for flood threats, based on the use of artificial intelligence technologies.
As reported by the press service of EMERCOM of Russia for Tatarstan, the experimental site has been deployed in the Kaybitsky municipal district, which was chosen for testing the new system not by chance – the village of Fyodorovskoye, located on the Birlya River, has repeatedly faced serious flooding caused by the overflow of this waterway during the spring flood, writes "Tatar. Inform". The hardware part of the complex consists of a set of high-precision measuring instruments and sensors mounted on four technological modules directly on the Birlya River. These devices automatically record a wide range of parameters every 10 minutes, including the current water level in the river, wind direction and speed, atmospheric pressure, air and soil temperature, as well as the amount of precipitation. The entire array of collected information is transmitted in real-time to a special analytical platform, where artificial intelligence comes into play. Neural network algorithms process the meteorological and hydrological data received from the sensors and based on them build a forecast of the hydrometeorological situation in the observation zone, allowing for the modeling of flood scenarios with a high degree of accuracy. In the event of an unfavorable trend or if the critical water level is reached or exceeded, the system immediately issues a warning directed to operational duty services, giving rescuers and local authorities time for proactive response and evacuation of the population. Earlier, EMERCOM of Tatarstan reported flooding of roads and areas. The water level on the Kazanka, according to experts, has risen by 20 centimeters.
