What does May 9 mean for those born decades after the war? This was asked of different generations. The responses were honest, painful, and very warm at the same time.       For each resident of the Verkhneuslon district, Victory Day is personal. Some sift through their grandfather's awards and leaf through yellowed photographs on this day. Some go to the Eternal Flame in the morning just to stand in silence. And for some, May 9 is primarily a day off when they can invite guests and grill shashlik. We decided not to guess but to ask the people themselves. From schoolchildren to veterans.

      Yuliana Cherkasova, village of Pechishi - What associations does May 9, 1945 evoke for me? A minute of silence... What do I feel standing before the graves of those who fell during the Great Patriotic War? Pride that I live in a country that gave birth to and raised such patriots, who laid down their young heads in the fight against Nazism and fascism. Pain, sorrow, tears... like those of the mothers, wives, children, and relatives who lost them... Pain for us who grew up but without them... Boundless gratitude for giving us a life without war, a clear sky, children's laughter, hope for the future... And God forbid, if such a situation were to repeat, I am sure we would all stand as one, ready for mortal combat. For our Motherland, for peace, for freedom. My grandfather went through the entire war, was in besieged Leningrad. He did not reach Germany, he was discharged with a serious injury. He received many awards and died in 2009 at the age of 94. I have always been proud of him and will continue to be proud. I especially miss him on Victory Day.

His family did not wait for him to return from the front. He died in battles against Japanese militarists. But even many years later, we remember him, and the holiday of May 9 is considered very important not only for our family but for all families.

My grandfather paid for the Great Victory with his life. It was very painful to watch my grandmother struggle to remember that time. We proudly, with tears in our eyes, celebrate this holiday and remember the price of Victory. I am sure this holiday will forever remain in the history of our country.
