Gardener Tumanov shared how to harvest even with late plantings.
In gardening, what matters more than the calendar deadlines for planting is the approach and choice of varieties. This was stated by the chairman of the Moscow Union of Gardeners, Andrey Tumanov, in a conversation with "Radio 1". According to him, amateur gardeners cannot truly "be late" with their plantings – they can only slightly shift the deadlines. He cited the example of a sea captain who returns home only at the beginning of June: he calmly plants early-maturing crops and often gets a harvest no worse than those who rushed with their sowing. Tumanov advised those who are worried about deadlines to choose early-maturing varieties. He also noted that in the Moscow region, if desired, one can even harvest two crops of potatoes or carrots in a season. According to him, it is best to use different planting times: potatoes should not be planted all at once, but gradually, in small batches; peas should be sown several times over the summer to enjoy fresh young harvests all summer long.
The expert explained that most pea varieties yield unevenly, so he himself plants them in several stages – in April, then later, and plans to continue sowing further.
