The Rosselkhoznadzor will restrict the import of flowers from Armenia.
The Rosselkhoznadzor will introduce temporary restrictions on the import of floral products from Armenia starting May 22. The restrictions will remain in effect until the inspection of greenhouse farms is completed and its results are analyzed. This was reported by the agency. The Rosselkhoznadzor explained that the decision was made "to protect the phytosanitary well-being of the country and the export potential of Russia." The agency noted that quarantine objects continue to be found in floral products from Armenia, despite guarantees of safety from Yerevan. According to the service, since the beginning of the year, 135 cases of quarantine objects have been detected during the import of 96.2 million units of floral products from Armenia. This accounts for 77% of the total number of such cases recorded in Russia for the entire year of 2025. The decision comes amid a cooling of relations between Russia and Armenia. Today, the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergey Shoigu, noted that in recent years, Yerevan has taken a number of "unfriendly steps," including joining the International Criminal Court, handing over Russian citizens to third countries, and worsening conditions for Russian companies. Shoigu also mentioned the "provision of a platform for the Kyiv regime at the summit of the European Political Community in Yerevan to threaten the Russian Federation." Earlier, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, stated that Armenia needs to decide on its participation in the European Union (EU) or the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He noted that within the framework of the EAEU, the republic receives significant advantages in many areas. At the same time, the Russian leader allowed for the option of a "soft and intelligent divorce" when changing the format of interaction and did not rule out discussing this topic at one of the upcoming EAEU summits. Nevertheless, the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Ararat Mirzoyan, ruled out the scenario of a "divorce" with Russia, noting that Yerevan does not intend to create tension in relations with Moscow.
