On the day of the official adoption of Islam in Volga Bulgaria, a new mosque was opened in Novosheshminsk.
Today, on the 4th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah (May 21), on the Day of the official acceptance of Islam in Volga Bulgaria, a new mosque was opened in the district center of the Novosheshminsky district. The modern building was erected on the site of the Central Mosque (9a Youth Street), completely renovating it and equipping it with everything necessary. The reconstruction lasted just over a year. The old building of the Central Mosque, which was in a dilapidated state, was demolished on April 13, 2025, preserving only the minaret. The construction was carried out by Muslims, parishioners, fellow countrymen, activists, and sponsors. While the previous mosque could accommodate about 120 people, the new one can accommodate 250 worshippers. Now the villagers have the opportunity to study religion, perform collective prayers, and conduct religious ceremonies in a cozy and favorable environment. High-ranking guests gathered at the solemn opening ceremony of the new mosque, including the Mufti of Tatarstan, Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan Kamil Hazrat Samigullin, head of the Novosheshminsky municipal district Yegor Tarnavsky, imam-muhtasib of the Novosheshminsky district Rail Hazrat Fagizov, qazi of the southern region of Tatarstan, imam-muhtasib of the Chistopol district Muhammad Hazrat Kiyamov, as well as muhtasibs from neighboring districts, leaders of various organizations in the district, elders, imams, and residents of the village. In their speeches to the parishioners, the leaders expressed sincere wishes that the new mosque would become a center for spiritual development for all believers. Mufti Kamil Hazrat emphasized the special significance of the mosque's opening, which symbolically coincided with the Day of the official acceptance of Islam in Volga Bulgaria, noting that this is one of the most important dates in the history of the Tatar people. He also shared the significance of mosques in the daily life of a Muslim, highlighting the rewards and benefits for those who participated in their construction. Kamil Hazrat expressed gratitude to everyone who took part in the mosque's construction, and as a sign of appreciation, presented them with awards from the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan. Thus, from the hands of Mufti Kamil Hazrat, the medal of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan "Berdamlek" was awarded to Rinat Fasakhov, and the medal for the 30th anniversary of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan was awarded to Kharas Gilmuttidinov and Rishat Bilalov. Other leaders and religious figures present at the mosque's opening ceremony also emphasized the importance of religious education for the population, the development of spiritual and moral values, and the necessity of raising children in accordance with Islamic traditions. The construction of the mosque began in the spring of 2025. The building is a one-story structure with an attic, built from gas concrete blocks and bricks. Inside the mosque, in addition to the men's prayer hall, there is a washing room (taharatkhana), a women's prayer room, and a heated passage to the Enlightenment Center building, where courses on the basics of Islam will be held. Additionally, the mosque houses the rooms of the imam-muhtasib and the elder of the district. The building can also host iftars. A children's playground has been equipped next to the mosque, and plans are in place to build a mini-football field. The mosque is connected to engineering communications, has water supply, electricity, and gas. After the solemn opening ceremony of the mosque, guests and parishioners entered the mosque and performed the noon prayer. Currently, there are 12 mosques operating in the Novosheshminsky muhtasibat.
