Russian tax authorities have started to more frequently block companies' patents, trademarks, programs, databases, and claims against counterparties as part of protective measures. This is reported by "Izvestia" citing a letter from the Federal Tax Service (FTS). The FTS resorts to "freezing" as a protective measure when there is a risk that the company will begin to withdraw assets, making it problematic to collect debts. In the case of a tax freeze, the firm does not lose the property itself but will not be able to sell, pledge, or re-register it without the consent of the tax authorities.
