Media: Head of US National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has resigned
The head of U.S. national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, announced her resignation. She will leave her position on June 30 due to her husband being diagnosed with bone cancer, reports Fox News. According to the publication, Gabbard informed U.S. President Donald Trump of her decision during today's meeting in the Oval Office. The channel also published the text of her official resignation letter, in which Gabbard thanked Trump for his trust and the opportunity to lead the U.S. intelligence community for the past year and a half. "Unfortunately, I am forced to submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026. My husband, Abraham, was recently diagnosed with a very rare form of bone cancer," she wrote. Recall that Gabbard took over the national intelligence of the U.S. in February 2025 after Trump's victory in the presidential election. Previously, she represented the state of Hawaii in the U.S. House of Representatives for several terms as a member of the Democratic Party, but in 2022 she left the party and later supported Trump and joined the Republican Party. In American media, Gabbard was referred to as one of the most loyal members of the U.S. president's foreign policy team. Additionally, media sources from Trump's team reported on the potential appointment of Gabbard as Secretary of State or Secretary of Defense, and during the Republican primary, she was considered a possible vice-presidential candidate in Trump's campaign.
