President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a law amending the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, significantly expanding the possibilities for overtime work. According to the new regulations, the limit on overtime work has been doubled to 240 hours per year. Recall that the initiative to increase the threshold originated back in December of last year. Earlier legislation limited overtime work to 4 hours over two consecutive days and 120 hours per year. The payment system remains the same: for the first two hours of overtime in a day, one and a half times the pay is due, and for subsequent hours, double pay. At the same time, starting from the 121st hour of overtime, all hours will be paid at least at double the rate.

It is important to note that for some categories of workers, the maximum limit of 120 hours remains. This applies to employees of state and municipal institutions working under internal part-time arrangements for more than a quarter of the monthly norm of working time, as well as workers in harmful working conditions.
The law establishes special rules for involving pensioners, pre-pension age individuals, and workers in harmful working conditions in overtime work—only with their written consent and in the absence of medical contraindications.
Workers whose overtime exceeds 120 hours per year are offered an alternative compensation option—additional leave equivalent to the time of overtime work. In addition, such employees will receive the right to a paid day off for undergoing a medical examination.
