The second half of May 2026 marked the start of the domestic strawberry season on store shelves. The volume of ground berry supplies from the Krasnodar region and Adygea has already exceeded last year's figures by 70%.
Our field berries: domestic strawberry production is growing
The strawberry season from the beds has officially opened in Russia. If at the beginning of May buyers mainly saw greenhouse and imported berries, by the 20th the situation had radically changed. Sales of the first ground strawberries grown outdoors began at the Moscow pavilions "Berry Seasons."
Where has the first berry ripened?
The southern regions were the first to give the "green light." The main volume of early Russian strawberries is now coming from:
- Krasnodar Krai — the traditional leader in cultivation;
- The Republic of Adygea — where the berry ripens 5–7 days earlier.
According to Ksenia Malinovskaya, head of the analytics and monitoring department at "Food City," the daily volume of strawberry supplies has increased by more than 70% compared to the same period in 2025. This means that domestic farmers are increasing their capacities and reducing dependence on imports.
What makes ground strawberries better than greenhouse ones?
The main difference is taste. Greenhouse berries are available for sale year-round, but they are more watery and less aromatic. Ground strawberries, ripening under direct sunlight, accumulate more sugars. Buyers describe their taste as "rich, bright, and truly summery."
How much do they cost and when to expect price reductions?
Current retail prices (as of the end of May 2026):
- Azerbaijan from 400
- Crimea from 450
- Krasnodar Krai from 450
Economist Sergey Tolkachev notes: "According to preliminary estimates, this year's harvest is expected to be at or slightly above last year's level. No shortages are forecasted."
The main price drop is yet to come. Experts from "Food City" promise a price reduction of 30–40% by mid-June. This is when the mass harvesting of local berries will begin in Central Russia — in the Voronezh, Lipetsk, Tula, Ryazan, and Moscow regions.
Russian strawberry production is confidently growing. An increase of 70% over the year is a serious indicator of import substitution. Buyers should wait another 2–3 weeks to buy berries at affordable prices, but southern strawberries can already be tried for their rich taste and natural aroma. The 2026 season promises to be sweet and generous.
