Residents of apartment buildings in Kazan have accumulated a gigantic overdue debt to heat energy suppliers, which as of May 1, 2026, exceeded the psychological mark of one billion rubles.
As reported by the chairman of the city's housing and utilities committee, Ildar Khismatullin, the total amount of debt owed by the population to management companies for heat consumed during the heating season amounted to 1.06 billion rubles. Of this amount, 710 million is owed to the main supplier – the company "Tatenergo," while the remaining 353 million rubles were not paid to the company "Kazanenergo," RBC clarifies. As Khismatullin emphasized, systematic work is underway in the city to enforce the collection of debts for housing and communal services, and currently, lawsuits for the collection of 274 million rubles from non-payers are already being considered in various courts. According to the head of the housing and utilities committee, enforcement proceedings have been opened by bailiffs for a total of 334 million rubles, and since the beginning of the year, court decisions for 89 million rubles have been enforced, while another 10 million rubles in enforcement proceedings were terminated due to voluntary debt repayment, and agreements on debt restructuring for a total of 86 million rubles have been signed with some debtors. In addition, the housing organizations of the city have also accumulated debts for heating, owing suppliers 25 million rubles, of which 21 million is owed to "Kazanenergo" and 4 million to "Tatenergo." It should be noted that this year the heating season in the capital of Tatarstan lasted a record 220 days – from September 29, 2025, to May 7, 2026. It was previously reported that motorcycle patrols of the traffic police have taken to the roads in Tatarstan.
