Iran announced that it is suspending communications with the US due to the war in Lebanon.
Iran announced the suspension of message exchanges with the United States in protest against Israel's war with the Lebanese radical Shiite movement "Hezbollah." This was reported by the Iranian agency Tasnim. "<...> the Iranian negotiating team is halting negotiations and the exchange of texts through intermediaries," the statement said. At the same time, the agency referred to the ceasefire in Lebanon as "one of the preliminary conditions for a ceasefire" with the U.S. and stated that the need to end the armed confrontation there and withdraw Israeli troops has been repeatedly emphasized by Iranian officials and negotiators. Accordingly, according to the publication, "dialogue will not take place until Iran's and the 'Resistance's' views are taken into account." Furthermore, Tasnim claims that Iran and its allies are ready to completely block the Strait of Hormuz and "activate other fronts," including the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, to "punish the Zionists and their supporters." Later, the Intelligence Directorate of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that "Iran considers crossing red lines in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip as an open war" against it and that the Islamic Republic is ready to open new fronts. Formally, a ceasefire has been in place in Lebanon since April 16, but it was agreed upon by Israel and the Lebanese authorities, not "Hezbollah." In recent days, representatives of the radical Shiite movement have intensified shelling of both Israeli troops in Lebanon and the territory of Israel itself. Israeli forces seized the fortress of Beaufort, built by the Crusaders and held by representatives of "Hezbollah," and intensified bombings. Today, the Israel Defense Forces warned residents of the Shiite neighborhood of Dahieh in the Lebanese capital Beirut about the need for evacuation.
