Of the total harvest, 608 kilograms consist of seeds from common pine. The remaining 337 kilograms are from European spruce. Both species are the foundation for future reforestation efforts. The First Deputy Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ilgizar Zaripov, explained that seed collection is just the first step. Their quality is much more important to ensure that the trees take root and grow. The entire batch undergoes strict examination at the Forest Protection Center of the Republic of Tatarstan. Only after a positive conclusion do specialists issue certificates confirming the material's suitability. The annual plan for 2026 is to collect at least 11,455 kilograms. "We are just at the beginning of the journey, but the cone harvest promises to be good. The main volume is traditionally collected in late summer and autumn when the seeds are fully ripe," noted Ilgizar Zaripov. The regional project "Forest Conservation in the Republic of Tatarstan" started in 2025. It has three target indicators. The first is the ratio of the area of restored forests to the area of felled and dead plantations. The second is the amount of forest fund land where reforestation has been conducted (with a cumulative total). The third is the reduction of forest fire areas compared to 2021.
Without a quality seed fund, it is impossible to achieve the first goal. That is why forestry departments in the republic take the collection and testing of pine and spruce seeds so seriously.
