A criminal case has been initiated in Nizhnekamsk for large-scale fraud: 1.75 million rubles were stolen from a 69-year-old man.
The law enforcement agencies of Nizhnekamsk are investigating a fraud case in which a 69-year-old local resident lost 1,750,000 rubles. A criminal case has been initiated under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Fraud". The scam scheme began in December of last year with a call from a person claiming to be an employee of the "Electric Network Service". Under the pretext of a free replacement of electric meters, the fraudster tricked the man into providing a code from an SMS message.
Then followed a series of calls from fake employees of "State Services", "Rosfinmonitoring", and the FSB. The scammers convinced the victim that his personal account had been hacked. The criminals demanded secrecy, threatening criminal liability.
For several months, the criminals maintained contact with the victim, controlling his movements. Under pressure from the "employees", the victim transferred 300,000 rubles via an ATM and sold his car for 1,000,000 rubles. The proceeds were transferred to the account specified by the scammers.
Later, the victim told his son about the situation, who immediately determined that his father was communicating with scammers. After that, the victim contacted the police.
Police warn: "Scammers use fear and trust in government agencies. No real employee will ask for codes from SMS, transfers to 'safe accounts', or the sale of property. In such calls, immediately contact the police."
Safety rules: do not disclose codes from SMS, passwords, and card details to strangers; verify information through official channels; warn elderly relatives about such schemes; if you suspect fraud, immediately contact the police.
