Summer vacation in Nurlat: parents, review fire safety rules with your children.
With the start of the summer holidays, residents of Nurlat are strongly advised to increase supervision of children and to review key fire safety rules with them to avoid tragedies. Summer holidays have begun—a time when children are especially often left unsupervised by adults. Local residents were reminded that teaching the younger generation the basics of safety, including fire safety, is an essential task and a direct responsibility of parents. As specialists emphasize, the main cause of fires is careless handling of fire, and children are in a group of special risk. Developing a responsible attitude towards safety from an early age helps prevent tragedies.
What children must not do:
According to the guidelines, young residents of Nurlat are prohibited from:
• playing with matches, lighters, fireworks, sparklers, and candles;
• playing with fire near buildings, in sheds, attics, and basements;
• heating unfamiliar objects, packaging from powders, paints, and aerosol cans;
• lighting stoves and turning on gas stoves without adults;
• playing with electric heating devices (iron, heater);
• drying clothes over the stove, near an open flame, or on a heater;
• leaving turned-on electrical devices unattended, overloading sockets, and using damaged wires;
• starting fires without adults, especially in dry, hot, and windy weather;
• burning grass under trees, in fields, and meadows.
How to store dangerous items:
Matches, lighters, and flammable household chemicals must be stored in places inaccessible to children's eyes and hands. All fire hazardous devices should be stored so that a child cannot reach them independently.
What to do in case of fire: a child’s algorithm
In an emergency, you need to act clearly:
• Immediately call the fire department at "101" or "112," stating your last name, exact address (street, house number, and apartment), and also report what and where is burning.
• Call for help from adults.
• Urgently leave the smoke-filled room, tightly closing the door behind you to prevent the fire from spreading faster.
• In case of heavy smoke, wet a cloth (scarf, towel), breathe through it, crouch down to the floor, and move towards the exit along the wall. Smoke rises—therefore, you need to crawl.
• Do not hide under the bed, in a closet, or in the bathroom: firefighters will have difficulty finding the child.
• Do not return to the burning room for belongings or toys.
• Do not use the elevator—only the stairs. The elevator may shut down, and the shaft will quickly fill with smoke.
• If leaving the house or apartment is impossible, you need to block the gaps under the door and ventilation openings with rags to prevent smoke from entering the room and immediately call the fire department.
A special case: if clothing catches fire or there is a smell of gas
If a person's clothing catches fire, they must stop, fall to the ground, and roll to extinguish the flames. If there is a smell of gas, do not turn on lights or electrical devices, or light matches. It is necessary to ventilate the room urgently and call the gas service at "104."
How to teach a child the rules: tips for parents
Adults are advised to start teaching from the age of 3-4 in a playful manner, using bright illustrations, poems, and fairy tales. It is useful to hold conversations explaining the difference between smoke and fire, as well as to play didactic games ("Fire and Water," "Allowed - Forbidden") and role-playing games on themes like "Family in Nature" or "Fire Station." Additionally, it is important to set a personal example: turn off electrical devices, especially the iron and hairdryer. Regularly reviewing the rules, conducting home drills practicing actions during smoke, as well as educational cartoons and tests will help reinforce knowledge.
Important!
Parents bear full responsibility for the safety of their children. Do not leave preschoolers unattended near sources of fire and regularly check the condition of electrical wiring and household appliances.
