All legally imported mobile devices in Russia will be equipped with the pre-installed domestic messenger "Max." This was reported to "Abzatc" by the deputy chairman of the State Duma's committee on information policy, Andrey Svintsov. The "Max" app has been removed from the App Store. However, according to the parliamentarian, the Russian side has already learned to cope with restrictions from foreign platforms. "We have come a long way over the past six years. We observed how Apple removed banking apps that fell under sanctions. All our banks managed to navigate such situations quite easily: they provided the opportunity to download software via QR code or use a browser," Svintsov explained. The deputy noted that "Max" has already been downloaded millions of times, and its developers will find ways to deliver updates to users. The requirements of Russian legislation regarding the pre-installation of domestic software apply to all devices officially supplied to the country. "All legal smartphones that will be sold in the territory of the Russian Federation will come with the pre-installed 'Max' app," Svintsov emphasized, adding that difficulties with manual installation will affect less than 1% of citizens and will not impact the development of the service.
Recall that "Max" disappeared from the App Store just yesterday. The app cannot be found, and accessing it via a link results in an error. Against this backdrop, representatives of the messenger have sent a request for clarification to Apple. Today, the messenger's press service reported that users of Apple devices can no longer receive push notifications.
The Minister of Digitalization of the Russian Federation, Maksut Shadaev, also commented on the situation. According to him, "Max" was removed from the App Store without explanation. He noted that the restriction directly affected about 20 million users.
Earlier, the Cloudflare platform labeled the messenger as a "spy application." The app itself stated that the messenger regularly undergoes security audits, and all user data is securely protected. As explained in "Max," Cloudflare's classification was caused by a misinterpretation of request headers to ordinary website analytics services, rather than an actual analysis of the code. Later, Cloudflare removed the label.
