Russia has changed the procedure for crossing the border for EU diplomats.
From June 15, accredited diplomats, consular and administrative-technical staff of the embassies of EU countries, as well as the EU representation in Moscow, will be subject to a notification procedure for crossing the state border. This was reported by the Department of State Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. The notification must include personal data, route, purpose of the trip, dates of entry and exit, as well as information about transportation. The exception is direct flights between Russia and the diplomat's country of citizenship without layovers in the European Union. At the same time, minor children and unaccredited relatives arriving in Russia for up to 90 days do not need to send notifications. Russian citizens working in diplomatic missions of EU countries and the EU representation are not subject to the new procedure.
Recall that in October 2025, the European Union adopted the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions. It restricts the movements of Russian diplomats to "counter attempts at destabilization." Now they will be required to notify the authorities of the Schengen zone country whose border they intend to cross, including in the case of transit travel. The restrictions came into effect on January 25.
