Kazan cyclist Valery Smorchkov plans an expedition to Mongolia.
Kazan cyclist Valery Smorchkov, an associate professor at the Volga State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism, is preparing for a new international expedition after his journey along the Great Silk Road to Istanbul – his next destination will be Mongolia. He shared this in an interview with Tatar-inform. According to Smorchkov, the new route should continue the paths he has already traveled in Eurasia. "The next goal is Mongolia. I plan to start from Kazakhstan, where one of my previous routes ended, and then move towards Mongolia. As an alternative, I am considering China, especially since there are opportunities for this now," noted the interviewee of the news agency. In the future, the cyclist intends to continue exploring Asia. "If we talk globally, I would like to gradually cycle through almost all of Asia: the Far East, Southeast Asian countries, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore. It would be very interesting to someday reach Japan and South Korea. Beyond that, it depends on circumstances, as much also depends on geopolitics. I have dreams of Australia, Africa, South America, and Europe," he remarked. Earlier, Smorchkov, along with his partner Alexander Lokalov, cycled from Kazan to Istanbul along the Great Silk Road route. Over 52 days, the travelers covered more than 4,200 kilometers. More about what drives people in long journeys, which places in the republic everyone should see, and why a round-the-world trip remains a big dream – in the material "On the Roads of Tatarstan and the Great Silk Road: Cyclist Valery Smorchkov on People, Discoveries, and the Dream of a Round-the-World Trip."
