The cost of education in Tatarstan universities has increased by 18% this year.
The cost of paid education in Russian universities in 2026 increased on average by 10.7%, however, in a number of universities in Kazan, the increase was noticeably higher. For instance, at KNITU-KHTI, prices for first-year students increased on average by 18%, while education in the specialty "Dentistry" at KSMU rose by 17%, according to a review by "BUSINESS Online." At KNITU-KHTI, it was reported that prices for first-year students rose due to the launch of updated educational programs. For students in higher years, the indexation was a traditional 4%. Medical education remains the most expensive. At KSMU, the cost of education for first-year students increased on average by 6%, however, for the specialty "Dentistry," the price increased by 17% — to 450,000 rubles per year. The university explained the increase by inflation and rising costs of organizing the educational process. At Kazan State Agrarian University, the cost of full-time education now ranges from 125,000 to 200,000 rubles per year compared to 116,000–180,000 rubles a year earlier. At Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University, education became 8% more expensive. In the specialties of Innopolis College, prices also increased by 8% and reached 325,000 rubles. At the same time, at Innopolis University, the cost of education for most bachelor's and master's programs remained at the previous level — from 390,000 to 800,000 rubles per year. The increase in cost is accompanied by a decrease in the number of paid places across 40 training areas. Meanwhile, the number of applicants nationwide exceeded the number of budget places by about 130,000. However, Tatarstan managed to increase the budget volumes at almost all levels of education.
Thus, at KGASU, the budget increase for bachelor's and specialist programs was 20% (up to 969 places), for master's programs — 27% (up to 221). KGAU raised the total volume of state assignments to 1,471 places, adding 47 budget places for bachelor's programs. KNITU-KHTI received a record number of budget places for all forms of education, including branches — 4,038, which is 90 more than last year, and TISBI increased its budget by almost a third.
