In Kazan, commemorative events will be held for the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow.
In Kazan, on June 21 and 22, memorial events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow will take place. This was announced at the business Monday meeting by Dmitry Khvostikov, the chairman of the city Committee for Children and Youth Affairs. On June 21, an international action "Fiery Pictures of War" will be held in Victory Park. A portrait of Pyotr Mikhailovich Gavrilov, a Soviet officer and one of the leaders of the defense of the Brest Fortress, will be created from more than 40,000 candles lit by the city's residents and activists of youth public organizations. This action holds special significance for Tatarstan, as Pyotr Gavrilov was born in the Kazan province. His courage and resilience became a symbol of the unyielding will of the defenders of the Brest Fortress, who were the first to take the brunt of the enemy's attack. On the same day, students from Kazan universities will present a patriotic musical and theatrical performance "Jalil," directed by Ruslan Fehredinov. The play is dedicated to the life and heroism of the Hero of the Soviet Union, poet Musa Jalil, who, even in the fascist dungeons, did not lose his spirit and continued to fight the enemy. On June 22, memorial events will begin at 2:00 AM with the "Candle of Remembrance" action. Representatives of youth public organizations and city residents will march in a solemn procession from the Unknown Soldier monument in Gorky Park to Victory Park. Participants will carry lamps with candles, which will be laid at the Eternal Flame at the end of the action as a sign of eternal memory of the heroism of the defenders of the Fatherland. At 10:00 AM, a solemn flower-laying ceremony will take place at the "Eternal Flame" memorial in Victory Park, with the participation of representatives of government bodies, veteran organizations, and city residents.
"Preserving the memory of the events of June 22, 1941, is not just a reference to the past; it is a responsibility to the future and a reminder of how fragile peace is. This date unites people of different generations and nationalities, helping to preserve historical truth. Our duty is to remember these events, to tell children and youth about them, including through such memorial actions," noted the mayor of the capital of Tatarstan, Ilsur Metshin.
