The price of a "joke": the ATC of Tatarstan reminded about the punishment for false reports of a terrorist attack.
For spreading knowingly false information about terrorist acts, the guilty party faces not only a substantial fine but also actual imprisonment for up to ten years. In Tatarstan, residents were reminded of the severe penalties for false reports of acts of terrorism. As explained by the head of the republican Anti-Terrorism Commission, Ildus Garaev, any form of such statements falls under criminal liability, whether it be phone calls, verbal statements, or emails. The law provides for punishment for such actions starting from the age of 14. The basic penalty for knowingly false information about a planned explosion or other terrorist act includes a large monetary fine ranging from 200,000 to 500,000 rubles or restriction of freedom for up to three years. In cases where the "joke" was directed at social infrastructure objects—such as schools, hospitals, or train stations—or resulted in significant material damage, the punishment is intensified. In such situations, the fine increases to 500,000–700,000 rubles, and the prison term can range from three to five years. The most serious measures are provided for those who aim to destabilize the work of government bodies or whose actions lead to severe consequences, including loss of life. In such cases, the guilty party faces imprisonment for up to eight years, and in the most tragic scenarios, up to ten years. In addition to the prison sentence, the offender will be required to fully compensate all expenses incurred by emergency services in response to the false call. Authorities are particularly concerned about the involvement of minors in such crimes. According to Ildus Garaev, teenagers are often driven by the desire to disrupt tests or exams. Furthermore, numerous cases have been recorded where schoolchildren are provoked by foreign scammers manipulating their consciousness in messaging apps. The commission emphasizes that ignorance of the law or young age does not exempt one from responsibility: the consequences of such "hooliganism" ruin the lives of both the teenagers and their families.
