Oncologists in Chelny have conducted high-precision radiation therapy for a liver metastasis for the first time.
Oncologists from the Naberezhnye Chelny branch of the Republican Clinical Oncology Dispensary of Tatarstan have for the first time applied high-precision radiation therapy to treat a metastasis in the liver. This was reported by the Minister of Health of Tatarstan, Almir Abashev, on his channel in MAX. During the examination of a man who defeated nasopharyngeal cancer three years ago, doctors discovered a metastasis in his liver. For a year, the patient received modern drug therapy, which halted the tumor's development. The next step was to treat the metastasis using stereotactic radiation therapy – a first in the medical institution's practice. This technology allows for targeted destruction of the tumor while preserving the healthy tissues around it. Today, the man completed his course of high-precision radiation therapy. Earlier, "Tatar-inform" detailed the essence of the technology and its application in the Republican Clinical Oncology Dispensary of Tatarstan. According to the head of the radiology department, Rishat Kutdusov, the implementation of this technology opens new opportunities for oncology patients in the Zakamye region of Tatarstan, allowing for the targeting of individual metastatic foci without surgical intervention.
