New salary calculation rules have increased vacation pay for some Russians.

      A portion of Russians have seen an increase in their vacation pay following changes to the rules for calculating average earnings. This was reported by TASS, citing the head of the State Duma committee on labor, social policy, and veterans' affairs, Yaroslav Nilov. According to him, starting from September 1, 2025, a new procedure for calculating average wages will be in effect in Russia. "When calculating average earnings, additional income of the citizen is now also taken into account. If the average earnings of a specific employee have increased, this positively affected the calculation of [payments] for the period of their vacation," the deputy explained. He emphasized that the increase in payments did not affect all employees, but mainly those who received additional payments from their employer. "Individually, if we look at it, those citizens who received additional payments that were previously not considered in the calculation of average earnings can feel this today when receiving their vacation pay," Nilov added. According to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the annual paid vacation consists of 28 calendar days. Vacation pay is calculated based on the average income over 12 months, including salary, bonuses, and premiums.

      Vacation pay is not considered additional income but represents payment for rest time; upon dismissal, the employee receives compensation for unused vacation.
