      The number of paid places in universities of Tatarstan has decreased by 45 percent. This was stated today at a briefing in the Government House by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic, Ilsur Khadiullin. How many budget places have been allocated and how the rules for submitting documents have changed will be explained by Inna Danilova. Representatives of ten leading universities of the republic came to the briefing about the innovations of the admission campaign to inform journalists about the most important changes this year. An example of how to attract the audience's attention with just a few numbers was given by the head of the Ministry of Education of Tatarstan, Ilsur Khadiullin. "Starting this year, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation will set a limit on the number of paid places for a number of bachelor's and specialist programs. This includes 28 areas for bachelor's degrees and 12 for specialists. The volume of paid places in the universities of the republic has decreased by 45 percent. For admission to budget places: bachelor's, specialist, and master's programs — 23,346 places have been allocated," said the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ilsur Khadiullin. 60 percent of all budget places are allocated to Kazan Federal University, KSTU-KHTI, and KSTU-KAI. An active competition has also unfolded for target students, for which joint educational programs have been created with leading enterprises in Tatarstan. And the opportunity, alongside engineering, to also obtain a profession as a teacher of chemistry or biology, as in KHTI. The prospect of growth with a guarantee of quality education was announced by the new head of the Medical University. "We are admitting 1,739 future doctors to the first year. The university is growing. Practically 100 percent target distribution. We have almost no free budget places. Our task in the coming years will be to train a large number of foreign doctors," said the acting rector of Kazan State Medical University, Ayrat Farakhov. Meanwhile, KFU is expanding its branches abroad, which allows foreign students to study at Kazan University while staying at home. There is a special approach to applicants from abroad at the Kazan Institute of Culture. And in general, there is a call to applicants to the creative university: to take a more creative approach to their portfolios. "This year it is very convenient that on the portal, documents can be attached along with all diplomas, acknowledgments, notes — they all give additional points. And it happens that if two representatives with 'red' diplomas receive fives in creative tests, portfolios play a key role, so I also ask you to pay attention to this," noted the rector of Kazan State Institute of Culture, Roza Akhmadieva. At the same time, the level of applicants is rising. For example, if last year there were only 9 students with perfect scores, this year there are 55. Among the innovations for 2026 are not only the reduction of paid education but also the mandatory use of the "Gosuslugi" portal for electronic submission of applications to universities. In addition, applicants with college diplomas who wish to enter universities without the Unified State Exam (USE) will only be able to apply for specialties that correspond to the profile of their secondary education. And, of course, benefits for participants of the Special Military Operation (SMO) and their family members have been expanded.

      A total of 45 universities in Tatarstan have opened their doors to applicants. Of these, 28 are state universities. Overall, the number of students in the republic exceeds 155,000, with more than 20,000 of them being foreign students.
